New Arrival from Ethiopia
January 19, 2015
The CHICHU cooperative was established in 1976 and joined the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Union (YCFCU) in 2002 as one of their primary cooperatives. Currently, CHICHU has over 1,600 coop members. The members of each primary cooperative elect their own executive committee which makes decisions about investments such as purchasing new equipment, standards for tree maintenance, and how to structure payments to the coop members. Professional managers are appointed by the YCFCU members to oversee harvest and processing procedures for each primary cooperative. These managers are accountable to the primary coop’s members and executive committee. The CHICHU cooperative has set a goal to become the best quality organic coffee producer, processor, and exporter in Ethiopia. We are happy to support the families behind such a great cupping coffee to achieve this goal.
