How to Descale your Nespresso Creatista Plus

Maintaining a healthy Nespresso Creatista Plus is an important aspect of its life. If you, like many others, rely on your Creatista for amazing coffee, then you need to keep it in good condition. Even a machine needs some love.

Have you ever noticed that your coffee tastes slightly off? Then your Nespresso Creatista Plus may need descaling. Descaling is an important aspect of maintenance that only takes around 15 minutes out of your day and we can show you how to do it.

What is Descaling?

Descaling your Creatista Plus is a simple process that requires little effort as the machine will do all the work for you. When you make a coffee, hot water flows through the machine leaving small deposits of calcium carbonate that will build up over time. This build-up can be particularly prevalent in places that use hard water due to a higher concentration of minerals. If this is not treated, the calcium carbonate can cause serious damage to your machine that may not be repairable. Descaling your machine will remove these deposits resulting in a healthier machine and better tasting coffee.

How Often Should I Descale My Nespresso Creatista Plus?

Based on your consumption profile and the level of water hardness that you have set in the machine, a descaling alert will trigger when it needs to be descaled. This alert will appear on the display of your machine. If your consumption profile consists primarily of cappuccino, latte macchiato or hot water, the descaling alert will notify you sooner than a profile comprised mainly of regular coffee. Though, like the other Nespresso models, one should descale their Nespresso Creatista Plus every three months or twice a year as a minimum.

What Will I Need?

Descaling your Creatista Plus requires a good solution kit. Descaling solution kits are usually inexpensive and easy to find. The Urnex Dezcal Activated Scale Remover kit recommended. it’s cheap, non-toxic, biodegradable, safe and works on most machines. For only $3 this will get the job done. Also, you will need fresh water to fill your water tank and a container to catch the water.

Monthly Maintenance of My Creatista Plus

Nespresso highly recommends that you clean your machine every month to ensure that it runs smoothly and continues to make great coffee. This maintenance is different from descaling, it refers to the general cleaning of the machine rather than the removal of limescale. It is important to thoroughly clean the steam wand to ensure there is no left over milk. Follow these steps to ensure that your Creatista Plus is maintained correctly.

  • Select maintenance on the display and select the clean steam wand option.

  • Remove the water tank and retrieve the pin cleaning tool.

  • Then unscrew and remove the steam tip from the nozzle and use the pin tool to clean each hole of the steam tip.

  • Carefully remove the O-ring and inspect it for damage.

  • Use the pin tool to remove the steam tip cap.

  • Rinse both the steam tip and the tip cap to discard of any milk residue and wipe with a clean, dry cloth.

  • Reassemble the steam tip and tighten using the tool. Then slide the O-ring back on.

  • Return the steam tip onto the steam wand and place the pin tool back under the water tank.

  • Place a small container under the steam wand and press start on the machine to initiate the steam purge.

  • The cleaning cycle is now complete.
