How to Descale your Nespresso Gran Maestria
Your Nespresso Gran Maestria is likely a key aspect of your morning routine. You, like many others, will require a coffee when you wake up simply to function the rest of the day. Therefore, showing it a little TLC can help secure a healthy machine for a long time.
Have you ever noticed that your coffee tastes slightly off? Then your Nespresso Gran Maestria may need descaling. Descaling is an important aspect of maintenance that only takes around 20 minutes out of your day and we can show you how to do it.
What is Descaling?
Every time you use your Nespresso, the hot water flowing through the machine leaves small deposits of a mineral called calcium carbonate that can build up over time. This build-up can cause severe damage to your machine if not treated properly and the use of hard water influence this greatly. When you descale a Nespresso Gran Maestria, you will be removing these deposits resulting in a healthier machine and better tasting coffee.
How Often Should I Descale My Nespresso Gran Maestria?
Your Nespresso Gran Maestria will show a steady orange light in the middle of the machine when it needs to be descaled. However, it is recommended that one should descale their Gran Maestria every at least once a year, or to achieve the best results, every three months will maintain optimal machine cleanliness and consistently great coffee.
What Will I Need?
To successfully descale your Nespresso Gran Maestria, you will need a descaling solution kit. Using a good solution is important in maintaining your machine. The Urnex Dezcal Activated Scale Remover kit is cheap, non-toxic, biodegradable, safe and works on most machines. You will also need fresh water to mix with the solution and a container to catch what is dispensed from the machine.

Gran Maestria Features
The Gran Maestria is unlike other models due to its two-knob system. Instead of using just one pre-programmed button to make your coffee, you can use the knobs to choose between five different shot settings. This machine also comes equipped with a cup warmer that can heat your cup up to 188℉ and a separate milk frother on the size that has a hot or cold setting. The Gran Maestria boiler is more powerful than the Kitchenaid’s at 2300W it can utilize the full flavor of the coffee capsule.
Milk Frother Add-On
The Professional Aeroccino Milk Frother add-on is great for an extra smooth brew. Available with the Gran Maestria, this frother is easy to use with its one button function. It is unnecessary to include the Professional Aeroccino in the descaling process, but is important to clean it thoroughly after every use. To ensure a clean and healthy frother, you must rinse and wipe the cylinder with a dry cloth to remove any leftover milk residue.
