OUR COFFEE
Exceptional coffee starts with intention—from how it’s grown to how it’s roasted. We work exclusively with specialty-grade, USDA certified organic Arabica beans sourced from farms and cooperatives that prioritize sustainability, quality, and environmental responsibility.
Every bean we roast has been selected for its flavor, character, and integrity. Roasting happens in-house at our facility in Davie, Florida, where we use small-batch methods to preserve the unique qualities of each origin and blend. There are no artificial flavors, no shortcuts, and no compromise—just clean, honest coffee.
Whether it’s whole bean, ground, capsule, or single-serve, each product is made to meet the highest standards of freshness, transparency, and ethical sourcing. From origin to cup, this is coffee with purpose.
What makes Artizan Coffee different?
At Artizan Coffee, we focus on doing the fundamentals really well. We believe great coffee starts with great choices—from farm to cup. That’s why we source certified organic specialty beans, roast to order in small batches, and use eco-friendly packaging across all our product lines. Whether you’re brewing espresso, drip, or using a pod machine, our focus is always the same: fresh, honest coffee that reflects our commitment to quality and sustainability.
Do you have a blend guide?
We don’t offer a formal blend guide, as each of our signature blends and single origin coffees is crafted to stand on its own. Every coffee we roast is designed to showcase its unique character—whether you prefer bold, smooth, fruity, or balanced profiles. If you’re not sure where to start, we’re happy to help you find the right fit.
How is your coffee decaffeinated?
In general, decaffeination involves removing most of the caffeine from green (unroasted) coffee beans using one of three methods: chemical solvents (like methylene chloride or ethyl acetate), liquid CO₂, or water-based processes such as the Swiss Water® Process.
At Artizan Coffee, we never use chemical methods. We exclusively use organic-approved, water-based decaffeination, which preserves the flavor and integrity of the beans.
Specifically, we use the Swiss Water® Process, a 100% chemical-free method that gently removes caffeine while retaining the coffee’s natural characteristics. Because chemical solvents are not allowed under organic certification, all USDA certified organic decaf coffees must be decaffeinated using this process or a similar one—such as Mountain Water or Royal Select. While the names may differ, they all follow the same principle: no chemicals, no compromise on quality.
Are there any allergens in your coffee?
No. Our coffee contains no allergens and is roasted, packaged, and distributed from our USDA Certified Organic facility in Miami Gardens, Florida. Our facility is completely free from peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, wheat, soy, gluten, fish, shellfish, sesame, celery, lupin, and mustard. You can enjoy every cup with confidence.
Do you test for Mycotoxins?
Yes, and we take it seriously.
At Artizan Coffee, every lot of green coffee we source is tested for four major mycotoxins: Ochratoxin A, Aflatoxin B1, Fumonisin B1, and T-2 toxin. We also moisture-test every batch to ensure levels stay below 12.5%, creating an environment where mycotoxins cannot grow. Finally, we roast every batch for over 10 minutes at temperatures above 415°F, which further reduces any residual risk.
This is our Mycotoxin-Free Assurance—built on sound practices, not marketing gimmicks.
If you’re ready to take the blue pill and learn what’s really going on behind the label, read this: The Mycotoxin Lie That Hijacked Specialty Coffee.
What is Specialty Coffee?
Specialty coffee refers to the highest grade of Arabica coffee, classified as Grade 1. All green (unroasted) coffee is evaluated on a 1–7 scale, with Grade 1 being the best in terms of flavor, aroma, and absence of defects. Only about 1% of all coffee produced globally meets the strict standards to qualify as specialty.
At Artizan Coffee, we exclusively use 100% specialty-grade Arabica beans in every product we roast. This ensures a superior cup—clean, complex, and sourced with care from top-tier producers around the world.
Does Artizan Coffee "source" from other specialty roasters?
Absolutely not. We roast all of our coffee in-house at our USDA-certified facility to maintain complete control over quality, freshness, and flavor. From green bean to finished product, every step is handled by our team to ensure consistency and integrity in every batch.
Where is your coffee roasted?
Every single batch of Artizan Coffee is roasted in-house at our state-of-the-art facility in Davie, Florida, USA. There are no exceptions—we never outsource our roasting. This ensures total control over quality, consistency, and freshness in every roast we produce.
Do You Use Artificial Flavors?
No, never. We do not use artificial flavors in any of our products. As far as we know, the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) does not certify any product containing artificial flavors as organic.
To qualify as organic, any flavoring used must meet strict criteria—no GMOs, no synthetic pesticides, and no artificial preservatives. Every product we make is crafted with USDA certified organic ingredients in our NOP-certified facility.
You can verify our organic certification anytime by searching for Artizan Coffee Co. in the USDA Organic Integrity Database.
Do you sell conventional coffee?
Absolutely not—now or ever. All of our products, including our retail and wholesale offerings, are made with USDA certified organic coffee. We’re fully committed to clean, sustainable sourcing and never compromise on quality or integrity.
Where can I buy Artizan Coffee locally?
Our coffees are primarily sold online, but we’re also featured in select cafes and hotels. If you’re looking for a local retailer, feel free to contact us for details.
CERTIFICATIONS
We believe certifications should mean something—not just fill space on a label.
That’s why our entire operation is built around a deep commitment to organic integrity. Every product we offer is made using USDA Certified Organic coffee, and our roasting facility in Davie, Florida is certified under the USDA National Organic Program (NOP). This ensures that our sourcing, roasting, handling, and packaging meet the strictest organic standards—with no synthetic pesticides, GMOs, or artificial additives allowed at any point in the process.
While we support other certifications like Fair Trade, Bird-Friendly, and Rainforest Alliance when available, our top priority remains organic certification and long-term sustainability. Organic coffee offers broad protections for ecosystems, farmers, and consumers alike.
You can verify our certification in the USDA Organic Integrity Database under Artizan Coffee Co.
What is “USDA Certified Organic” coffee?
In the United States, coffee labeled as USDA Certified Organic must meet strict standards set by the National Organic Program (NOP) and be certified by an accredited agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
To qualify, the coffee must be:
- Grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or prohibited substances for at least three years.
- Cultivated on land with proper buffer zones to prevent contamination from nearby conventional crops.
- Produced under a sustainable farming plan, which includes crop rotation to protect soil health, prevent erosion, manage nutrients, and control pests naturally.
At Artizan Coffee, all of our products are made with USDA certified organic coffee, and our facility is fully certified under the National Organic Program. You can verify our certification in the USDA Organic Integrity Database under Artizan Coffee Co..
Why is Organic coffee better?
Organic coffee taste better because it is free from chemical pesticides and fertilizers. In addition, drinking organic coffee may reduce your risk of chronic disease, extend your lifespan and improve the environment to boot.
As the consumer, how do I identify a USDA certified coffee?
As a consumer, how do I identify USDA certified organic coffee?
Look for the USDA Organic seal on the front label of the coffee package. This logo confirms that the entire supply chain—from the farm to the roaster—has been independently verified to meet strict organic standards set by the USDA.
When you see that seal, you can trust that the coffee you’re drinking is truly organic and aligns with the conscious choice you’ve made.
Are Artizan Coffee capsules made with certified organic coffee?
You bet! Every capsule we produce is made with USDA certified organic coffee. In fact, Artizan Coffee was the first company in the world to offer Nespresso-compatible capsules bearing the USDA Organic seal—a milestone we’re proud of.
When you choose our capsules, you’re choosing coffee that’s not only delicious and convenient, but also sustainably sourced and certified organic from bean to brew.
Our USDA Organic CertifIcation - what does it mean?
It’s more than just a label—it’s a commitment to integrity at every step. Our USDA Organic certification means that our handling, roasting, and packaging processes are performed in full compliance with organic processing standards set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
From the moment the green coffee beans arrive at our facility to the final packaging of your order, every step is audited and verified to ensure we meet the strict criteria required to maintain our organic status.
Is your coffee Kosher?
Yes. Our unflavored coffees are considered kosher because the beans only come into contact with water during harvesting, processing, and roasting. Kosher concerns typically arise with the use of flavor additives or certain decaffeination methods.
At Artizan Coffee, we use only the Swiss Water® Process to decaffeinate our coffee—a natural, chemical-free, water-based method that aligns with kosher standards. We do not use chemical solvents like ethyl acetate, which is grain-derived and not kosher for Passover.
In addition, our organic flavoring systems are certified kosher by the Orthodox Union (OU).
For added assurance, look for the Naturally Kosher and Naturally Kosher for Passover logos on our product pages to easily identify our kosher-certified offerings.
Is your coffee Fair Trade certified?
Many of our coffees are Fair Trade certified, and we always try to source Fair Trade beans when available. However, our top priority is organic certification and long-term sustainability. If a coffee meets both standards, even better.
Is your coffee Non-GMO certified?
No, our coffee is not Non-GMO Project verified—because it doesn’t need to be. Certified organic coffee already exceeds Non-GMO standards, prohibiting the use of genetically modified organisms throughout the entire supply chain.
Is your coffee Bird-Friendly certified?
Some of our coffees are Smithsonian Bird-Friendly® certified, and we source them whenever possible. However, our primary focus remains on organic certification and sustainability, which offer broad environmental protections—including preserving biodiversity and bird habitats.
Is your coffee Rainforest Alliance certified?
While we support the mission of the Rainforest Alliance, our focus is on sourcing USDA Organic and sustainably grown coffees. Some of our coffees may carry the Rainforest Alliance certification, but it is not a primary sourcing requirement for us.
OUR CAPSULES
We don’t just fill capsules—we reinvent them.
Our capsules are compatible with Nespresso OriginalLine machines and are made exclusively with USDA certified organic specialty coffee, roasted in-house at our facility in Davie, Florida. We were the first company in the world to offer certified organic coffee in Nespresso-compatible capsules, and we continue to lead with integrity, quality, and innovation.
Unlike many competitors who rely on mass-produced, third-party capsule fillers and pre-ground blends, we roast, grind, and pack our capsules fresh—often within days of shipping—so you get the full flavor and aroma of specialty-grade coffee in a convenient single-serve format.
Our Zero Impact Capsules go even further. Made from plant-based, home-compostable materials, these capsules align with our deep commitment to sustainability and waste reduction. No aluminum, no plastic waste—just great coffee with a clear conscience.
Whether you're looking for a clean, organic espresso or an innovative blend like our Havana Club Rum-Infused Coffee or Mushroom Superblend, you’ll find that our capsules deliver the same high standard you expect from any Artizan product—without compromise.
What is the shelf life of Artizan pods?
Our capsules have a shelf life of approximately 12 months, thanks to our oxygen barrier technology and airtight sealing. However, for optimal flavor and aroma, we strongly recommend enjoying them within 3 months of the "Roasted On" date printed on the package.
Coffee doesn’t spoil like perishable food, but it does lose its vibrancy over time—so the fresher, the better.
Do your capsules contain any BPA?
No. Our capsules are completely free of BPA (bisphenol-A), phthalates, and halogens. They’re made from plant-based, compostable materials that are food-safe, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly. You can enjoy your coffee knowing the capsule is as clean and conscious as what’s inside.
Do your capsules contain any aluminum?
No. Our capsules do not contain any aluminum, so there’s no risk of aluminum leaching during brewing. Instead, we use plant-based, compostable materials that are safe for you and better for the environment.
Will Artizan Coffee capsules fit my Nespresso machine?
Artizan Coffee capsules are specifically designed to work with the following Nespresso OriginalLine machines:
Delonghi C190, D290, Citiz, Citiz&Milk, Maestria, U, Le Cube, Inissia, Lattissima Plus, Lattissima Touch, Lattissima One, Pixie, KitchenAid, Prodigio, Expert, Essenza Mini, Creatista, Creatista Uno, and Creatista Plus.
❗Important Note: Artizan capsules may not work with all Nespresso Original machines. If your machine is not listed above, compatibility is not guaranteed.
Known machines that are NOT compatible with Artizan capsules:
- Nespresso Lattissima Pro
- Ninja Espresso & Coffee Barista System
- Miele Coffee Machine
If you're unsure about compatibility, feel free to contact us we’re happy to help.
Are Your Capsules Compatible With any Nespresso Vertuo Machine?
No. Our capsules are not compatible with any Nespresso Vertuo machines. Vertuo machines use a completely different capsule shape and brewing system that is incompatible with Nespresso OriginalLine–style capsules, like the ones we produce.
If you’re using a Vertuo machine, we recommend checking directly with Nespresso for compatible options.
If you have an OriginalLine machine, our capsules are a perfect fit.
How much coffee is in your capsules?
Each Artizan Coffee capsule contains between 5 and 6 grams of coffee, depending on the specific blend or product. On average, our capsules hold approximately 5.5 grams—crafted to deliver a balanced and flavorful espresso experience.
How much caffeine is in each capsule?
On average, our capsules contain between 60 mg and 120 mg of caffeine, depending on the roast level and coffee origin. Our decaf capsules contain only 1 to 2 mg of caffeine per serving, thanks to our chemical-free Swiss Water® decaffeination process.
What Are Your Capsules Made Of?
Our Nespresso®*-compatible capsules are made from BASF’s ecovio®, a biobased and fully compostable polymer. This high-quality bioplastic is a blend of ecoflex®—a biodegradable polymer—and PLA (polylactic acid) derived from renewable resources like sugarcane.
These plant-based materials allow us to deliver a convenient single-serve coffee experience without compromising our commitment to sustainability. Our capsules are certified compostable and designed to break down in the right composting conditions—leaving behind no toxic residue.
*Nespresso® is a registered trademark of Société des Produits Nestlé S.A., which is not affiliated with Artizan Coffee.
What are your lids made of?
Our capsule lids are made from 100% cellulose natural fibers and are FSC® certified, meaning they come from responsibly managed forests. They are both biodegradable and certified compostable—suitable for home and industrial composting in accordance with EN 13432 standards.
This ensures that every part of our capsule, including the lid, aligns with our commitment to sustainability and clean materials—without compromising performance.
Are Your Pods Compostable Or Biodegradable?
Both. Our pods are designed to be biodegradable and compostable, making them a more sustainable alternative to traditional plastic or aluminum capsules.
Thanks to their special chemical structure, our pods can be broken down naturally by microorganisms and their enzymes. In the high-temperature, high-moisture, oxygen-rich conditions of an industrial composting facility, this process typically takes just a few weeks.
This means you can enjoy the convenience of single-serve coffee without the environmental guilt—our pods are made to disappear the right way.
Are your capsules compostable at home?
Yes. Our capsules are certified home compostable, meaning they can safely break down in a well-maintained home composting environment—no need for industrial facilities.
They meet the standards for home compostability and have been approved by the FDA for food safety. That means you can enjoy great coffee while minimizing your environmental footprint, right from your own backyard.
What About Recycling? Can I Recycle My Used Pods?
It’s a fair question—and the truth might surprise you.
Over 75% of coffee capsules end up in landfills. Most aren’t truly recyclable, despite the green claims. They’re too small or made with aluminum and plastic, which require complex disassembly. Recycling coffee pods has become more of a marketing tactic than an environmental solution.
That’s why we took a better route.
Our capsules are made from plant-based materials and are 100% home-compostable. Just toss them in your backyard compost, food waste bin, or municipal green bin (where accepted). They break down naturally—no chemicals, no waste.
Can they be recycled?
No. Compostable pods are not meant for recycling. Recycling systems can't process plant-based materials and may treat them as contamination.
What if I throw them in the trash?
Even if composting isn’t an option, our pods still leave a lighter footprint. Unlike plastic or aluminum, they won't pollute the planet for centuries. They’ll break down much more quickly in landfills compared to traditional capsules.
In short: Compost them if you can. Trash is better than recycling in this case. But either way, you're making a cleaner choice.
Where Are Your Nespresso Capsules Made?
All of our Nespresso-compatible capsules are roasted, filled, and packaged in-house at our FDA-approved, USDA-certified organic facility in Davie, Florida, USA.
Unlike most brands—whose pods are produced overseas and often sit in warehouses for months before reaching your cup—ours are made fresh and shipped direct. Many of those imported capsules are roasted up to 3 months before you even open the box, often in countries with inconsistent quality control.
By doing everything under one roof, we ensure exceptional freshness, strict quality standards, and total transparency—from sourcing to the final pour.
