November 25, 2025
Organic Peru SHB – La Florida comes from a cooperative of small-scale coffee farmers located in the Chanchamayo region of Peru, part of the Central Jungle-Mountain area. The cooperative, known as CAC La Florida, was established in the mid-1960s to help farmers gain better control over production and fair pricing. Its network now includes hundreds of smallholder farms, typically between 1,100 and 1,800 meters above sea level, where coffee is grown under shade trees to protect biodiversity and soil health. The cooperative emphasizes sustainable, chemical-free farming practices and holds certifications such as Organic and Fair Trade, ensuring farmers receive fair compensation. By pooling resources, La Florida supports community development, including education, infrastructure, and health initiatives. The coffee, labeled as SHB (Strictly Hard Bean), reflects its high-altitude growth, producing dense beans with complex flavors. Typical tasting notes include chocolate, citrus, and nutty flavors with a medium body and mild acidity.
