Hacienda la Amistad
Hacienda La Amistad is a renowned organic coffee estate located in Coto Brus, Costa Rica, owned and managed by Roberto Montero, a third-generation coffee farmer. Spanning around 10,000 hectares, the estate dedicates approximately 300 hectares to organic, shade-grown coffee while preserving the surrounding rainforest as part of the La Amistad International Park, a UNESCO-recognized reserve. Fully off-grid and powered by hydroelectric and solar energy, the farm is committed to sustainability, recycling all organic waste for fuel or compost while maintaining biodiversity and bird-friendly habitats. Hacienda La Amistad produces high-quality coffees grown at elevations between 1,200 and 1,500 meters, showcasing flavors of dark chocolate, caramel, citrus, and honey with a smooth body and clean finish. Beyond its environmental efforts, the estate supports local and indigenous communities by providing employment, housing, healthcare, and educational assistance, embodying its name “La Amistad” (friendship) in its commitment to people and the planet while producing exceptional coffee.
