Have you ever noticed that your coffee tastes slightly off? Then your Nespresso Lattissima Pro may need descaling. Descaling is an important aspect of maintenance that only takes around 25 minutes out of your day and we can show you how to do it.
What is Descaling?
When in use, hot water flows through your Nespresso machine leaving small deposits of the mineral calcium carbonate. Over time the build-up of calcium carbonate will affect the taste of the coffee and can cause serious damage to the machine. Descaling your Nespresso Lattissima Pro will remove these mineral deposits and allow the machine to produce great tasting coffee again.
How Often Should I Descale My Nespresso Lattissima Pro?
Based on your consumption profile and the level of water hardness that you have set in the machine, a descaling alert will trigger when it needs to be descaled. This alert will appear on the display of your machine. If your consumption profile consists primarily of cappuccino, latte macchiato or hot water, the descaling alert will notify you sooner than a profile comprised mainly of regular coffee. Though, like the other Nespresso models, one should descale their Nespresso Lattissima Pro every three months or twice a year as a minimum.
What will I Need?
Successfully descaling your Lattissima Pro will require a descaling solution kit. The Urnex Dezcal Activated Scale Remover will complete the task exceptionally. This solution is cheap, non-toxic, biodegradable, safe and works on most machines. You will also need fresh water to fill your water tank and a container to catch the water.
Steps To Descaling My Nespresso Lattissima Pro
The steps required to descale a Nespresso Lattissima Pro are quite simple. Follow this process to ensure that your Lattissima Pro is clean and ready to make delicious coffee.
Preparing my Lattissima Pro
First, turn on the machine allowing it to heat up. This will take around 25 seconds.
Enter the menu by touching the gears symbol and scrolling down until you find the descaling option and hit enter.
The display will pop up showing how long the process will take. Hit enter again.
The display will then prompt you to remove any capsules and empty the used capsule container and drip tray.
Then fill the water tank with the descaling solution and 500ml of water.
Remove the hot water nozzle from the compartment on the side of the machine and place it in the correct spot on the front.
Place a container under the coffee outlet and the hot water nozzle. This container must be able to hold at least 1 litre of water.
Starting the descaling process
Hit enter on the display to begin the descaling cycle.
The descaling solution will flow alternatively through the coffee outlet and the hot water nozzle.
The display will notify you when the descaling process is complete.
Rinsing my Nespresso machine
The display will tell you that the rinse cycle has begun.
Empty the container and the drip tray.
Rinse out the water tank to ensure it is devoid of any leftover solution.
Then fill the water tank with fresh water to the max level.
Now you can start the rinsing cycle.
The process will repeat flushing out any solution that is left in the machine.
Exiting descaling mode
Once the final cycle is over, your Nespresso Lattissima Pro will automatically turn off.
Detach the hot water nozzle and place it back in the compartment.
Now, your Nespresso Lattissima Pro has been descaled and is ready to make amazing coffees again.
